There was a small boat tied up on the river,
bobbing with the wake of other boats that passed by.

We sat on the bank with our feet in the water, talking about life. You told me that you never understood yourself
and it makes it hard for you to connect with people.

What you didn’t realize was that you were connecting with me right then.

We spent a couple of hours like this,
and when we finally got up to leave,
and our legs failed us,
we found half-way comfort
on a nearby bench
until we could walk again.

We drank coffee from the bar on the bank
and strolled in the sunlight
until we reached a place where we would go separate ways.
